Founded in 1881, Kirkpatrick's has a long history and generations of satisfied customers.

From pulling harness for carriage horses in the past, to electronic instrument cases today, the company continues to evolve with changing market requirements.

Early in the 1900's, Ted Kirkpatrick, moved the company from its origins on King Street East in Toronto to Broadview Ave , near the Danforth, where it remained for over 75 years. At this location, the company expanded into the manufacture of police gear, sporting goods, commercial and industrial products. Skate enthusiasts will recall the company's reputation for excellence in skate sharpening. This was achieved when Ted installed a 25 foot concrete base to fully stabilize the equipment to offer Toronto the best skate sharpening in town. Many a Toronto Maple Leaf player had skates sharpened here and it was during this period that Kirkpatrick's operated the sporting goods store at Maple Leaf Gardens . In 1981, Kirkpatrick's moved to its present location in Markham, just north of Toronto .

To this day, Kirkpatrick's continues to use its harness-stitching machines dating from the 1890's to today's modern machines, allowing the company to produce quality products of proven style and durability.

The current owner, Brian Lindsay, has been a leather craftsman for over 35 years. It all began for Brian as a part time job while at university and turned into a life long profession. Brian honed his skills as a saddle maker in Western Canada for a decade and returned to Toronto where he purchased Kirkpatrick's in 1988. Brian's extensive experience in custom design and innovative prototype development has enhanced what Kirkpatrick's is able to offer its security, industrial and commercial customers. To showcase his talents, Brian will also be opening a studio gallery, in the historic town of Port Hope, east of Toronto, offering his own line of designer and artistic leather goods.

Kirkpatrick's purchase in 2001 of Commercial Leather Manufacturing, founded in 1965, added a large selection of popular retrospective styles and designs to the commercial case business.
